How long will it take to get comfy from a big school into a small school?

Just wonder how long will it take for a yr3 / yr4 child to get comfy in a new and a lot smaller school. We moved house so wanted to transfer dc into a local school. The current school has three classes in each year but the new school will only has 1 class per year. I believe dc will do better in the small school once dc has one or two close friend/s. Also the smaller school is a faith school and we are non-religionist family. I know many people only baptised to get into a faith school. However there may be in-year places available in the near future so we may not need to be baptised and still can get our dc in. Any thoughts?

Thanks moldingsunbeams but did your dc find it hard to break into the little children community as all the children would have be there since yR so would have their own very close friendships by yr 3 or 4.
