Independent Primary Schools Maidenhead

My DS will be starting primary school in Autumn 2014. We are not in a great area when it comes to state schools and so are looking at independent options. I would be really grateful to hear of Maidenhead Mumsnetters experience of independent schools.

We have been on open days to Ridgeway and St Pirans. We were really impressed with Ridgeway. It seemed a lovely school. My only concern was they maybe don't challenge the most academically able children.

St Pirans we were not impressed with. My DH and I felt that they looked down their noses at us. I was also concerned about the culture. There was a board up for house points, but also demerit points - seemed harsh for primary school children!

I've heard good things about Herries, but both DH and I have to commute into London and so getting out there for drop offs and back would probably be too much.

So all experiences of the independent sector in Maidenhead would be gratefully received. In particular do you have/had a son at Ridgeway? If they are academically bright, have they had opportunities to fulfil their full potential?

Claires court would be another option?

But Maidenhead has more than its fair share of very good state schools.

There is a bus to Lambrook from the new little Tesco Express on the A4 (other stops too I think- I just see children waiting there). Lambrook is head and shoulders above anything actually in Maidenhead.

I'd vote for Lambrook too.

Thanks for all the replies. I have to say I hadn't heard of Lambrook (had been focusing on Maidenhead). I'd just be a bit worried about sending DS on a school bus when he was really little, but will definitely go and have a look, and possibly may be an option for 7+.
