When would DD start school in Scotland?

DD is four in May. At the moment she is all set to start school in England in September 2014. However, there is a remote chance we might relocate to Scotland and, if I understand it correctly, she wouldn't start there until 2015. Is that right? Does anyone know what would happen if she had already started in reception in England before the move?

I think it's usually the August after they turn 4, as long as they are 5 by the feb? So I think your daughter would start August next year?

Ah, but that's the thing gin - she won't be five until the following May, so I think she'd start in 2015

You are right OP, she would start the August after she turns 5 so that would be Aug 2015. There is no reception year in Scotland, which is what she would be going into if she started in Sept 2014 in England.

She wOuld go into a nursery class, very similar to reception, ie. play based but half day sessions only.

Thanks - that's what I thought.

As a May baby, she'd end up being at the old end of the year rather than the young end. P1 is very similar to Reception though - very much seen as the transition from nursery into formal education.
