early hearing problems and difficulty with phonics

hi everyone. i'm just wondering if anyone has experience of this. my lo had poor hearing and late speech development and now is doing okayish with phonics but there seems to be a block somewhere in his understanding. am wondering if it may be connected to the earlier hearing and speech problems. neither the hearing, speech delay or phonics issues were/are dramatically worrisome. lo is almost 6.

I am not sure from your post whather your son has a permanent hearing loss or something more temporary? Has his hearing been tested recently?

I have a daughter aged 5 who has a speech/language delay and she was eventually diagnosed earlier this year with permanent hearing loss and now wears hearing aids. Her speech is improving but she still has some issues with phonics due to her hearing.

thanks for replying. the last hearing tests earlier in the year were coming up as normal for him but i am suspicious that there may be a small amount of hearing loss still. i'm basing this on a number of things connected and unconnected to the learning of phonics. i am alone in thinking this but am thinking that perhaps i should push it further with the doctors.
