Sorry if being dim but got a letter from school today. DS has been set for 3c in literacy and 2a in numeracy. Just not sure of the context or how this relates to how he is actually achieving.

Can anyone explain. I will ask the school but of course they are shut now for a week.

The average child should achieve a 1b at the end of year 1, 2b at the end of year 2 and a level 4 at the end of KS2. They are supposed to make a full level of progress in a year at KS1 (so if he was a 1a at the end of last year he should be set a target of 2a the following year) then 2 whole levels across the four years of KS2, so if he is 2a/3c at the end of year 2 he should be level 4/5 at the end of primary.

The lower levels are split into sublevels 1a, 1b, 1c, where 1a is highest. I'm not sure how much this happens in KS2.

this is useful and says 2a/3c is average attainment for the end of year 3.

Thanks so useful. His targets are 3c in lit and .2a for numeracy.
