Little Miss Fidget! Any tips?

DD1 is just starting yr 1. All going well, but the teacher explained that she doesn't get as much work done as the other kids because the fidgets a lot - pencil drops, she picks it up etc. Has anyone else had this? Any tips or strategies to help concentration?

My two fidgeters have a fidget toy each. One likes blutack and the other has a shiny GOGo toy. They are a bit older though, so I would be asking the LS teacher for strategies for a 5/6 y.o.
Good luck!

Thankyou Schmedz. Does anything else help eg more exercise, diet etc?

I would think there are 2 things possibly, one is she just 'has' to fidget, some kids do and the other is that is she doing it to put off getting started on a bit of work because she is just a bit uncertain at the start of a task (I used to do things like that) so she fidgets, has to pick up a dropped pencil, pencil needs sharpening, needs a tissue for a runny nose, has to cough and so on.

If it is the first one then I think I would ask the teacher for ideas about tackling it. if it might be the second one then it is possibly confidence based and boosting her confidence to try to do the work and not worry about what others are doing (they might start it wrong so if she waits to check she is doing it how they are then she might then do it wrong too).

I don't think diet makes a difference if it is minor fidgeting, I would connect that more with real overactivity if that makes sense.

It does make a lot of sense, thanks Periwinkle!
