5 year old easily distracted/doesn't listen!!

My son is almost 6 and in year 1 at school. Recently, i have noticed that when he is spoken to, sometimes he looks away, as though he is not listening. Sometimes he is listening but just doesn't pay attention. I watched his whole swimming class walk to the other side of the pool and he was left behind as he didn't listen and wasn't even watching in the direction of his tutor. Same goes to tennis lessons, he would take his time and not bother doing as he is told immediately. He is really enthusiatic when it comes to watching tv or playing games on my phone or playstation (which i limit to 1 hour playstation on Sunday and 10 minutes per night on my phone).

I spoke to his class teacher at school and she has noticed he gets distracted very easily and has to call him to concentrate.

He is quite bright and generally a really good kid. What can i do to help him? Has anyone got any tips?

Has he had his hearing tested

No but i am going to take him to the doctor today

We were told to play board games, do puzzles together, obviously reading. It's just a long process really of keeping on drawing them back into something and trying to build up the time they spend on it.

There are some fairly simple board games - like coppit or frustration where they have to keep going to win. There are also a few with a maths element - Orchard Toys do some.

Don't worry, he is only 5! We expect so much of our children when they are really very little. Although it may not suit the school/teacher to have him daydreaming/not listening, it doesn't mean there is anything wrong with him. Some teachers I know give children a special cushion or something to fiddle with like a stress ball when they are in a situation where concentration is needed.

This was me at 5. I only had 25% hearing.

No tips sorry but you could have been describing my dd2. Always seems to be on the lookout for something more exciting than what she should be concentrating on but she's 4.

DD2 is the dame but I think its more pushing the boundaries in her case.
And the laughing when I tell her off don't get me started!
