School consistency from year to year - marking, homework, discipline

From my experience so far every year my dd has been at her school each of the above - marking, homework, discipline has been done totally differently by each teacher.

Last year it was two stars and a wish for marking schoolwork, just when the kids understood this, it's gone (now just comments)!

We've had rainbow/stormclouds, then green walls and house points for behaviour.

Frequency/type of h/w changes from one teacher to another also.

There seems to be little similarity between years and it takes several weeks at the beginning of the academic year for my dd to "get" the new systems. It also changes mid year too sometimes..

Is this how other schools are?

Yes. Different systems work for different teachers/year groups/ages/pupils. Is it really a huge problem?

I have similar issues with our school. There are various rewards in the form of house points, reward ladders, stickers, happy and sad faces, certificates - it's all too much.

Last year we were told the school had introduced a no homework policy and this year it's back. No explanation no communication. Drives me nuts!

That sounds quite normal but it shouldn't take long to get a new system if it is clearly explained, is there a lack of explanation?

Yes, it is a problem for us. DD doesn't know what is expected of her as it keeps changing.

As we all know, consistency with children is important, not chopping and changing without proper explanation.
