How much PE in Year 6?

Dd2 is in Year 6 and I was surprised to find out that they're only doing PE once a week until after the SATS. The teacher actually said this himself at the meet the teacher meeting, and there will be more PE after May.

Does this sound right? Is there a minimum amount of PE schools should be doing?

I thought it was 2 hours a week.

There used to be a 2 hour target every week - however this no longer stands. In the school I teach at, ours do 1 PE lesson (50 mins) and 1 Games lesson (75mins) every week, and 1 swimming lesson once a fortnight (40 mins). Absolutely no need to take lessons away due to SATS in my opinion.

Yep the whole of the year was all about sats, it was ridiculous. Booster lessons, weird time tables, pressure

Well I don't feel happy about PE being sidelined this early on in the year. Surely children need plenty of excercise for their brains to function well?

Is it worth talking to the school or am I fighting a lost battle?

if they want to free up some timetable space, do away with that ridiculous lesson PSHE (+C)
