Livening up school's courtyard - any tried & tested ideas?

My son's primary is revamping it's courtyard area - PTA has funded some seating and tables and play equipment like sand / water tables.

There are some old murals that we are going to freshen up, and hopefully we'll add a few more bits of artwork.

I wondered if any parents had been involved in any similar projects at their schools and had any really nice creative touches that had worked particularly well...?

At our school we painted one part of wall with blackboard paint so Chdn had outside chalk board.

Thanks - I was hoping someone might mention that because I was wondering if it would work! Did you just do the blackboard paint straight onto bare brick? Does it weather ok or do you have to coat it with something?

Join Pinterest - loads of fantastic ideas. Have you thought about a loose parts philosophy? Or, a Playpod project?

Loose parts philosophy & Playpod project... both sound intriguing stargirl1701! Could you explain a bit more please?

Ah no our court yard is in middle of school building (it's a square building) so paint is on actual school wall which is smooth. Would be very easy to get some kind of flat smooth material pinned against wall and painted tho.

Loose parts is about providing natural materials - sticks, cones, leaves, shells, etc. Playpods are collections of man made materials - old keyboards, old phones, pipes, tyres, etc.

Google both for more information/images. I use Pinterest for playground inspiration.
