Hi,

I wondered if any one could give me some advice please. We have two children aged 5 and 3 years and will be moving from Scotland to Hampshire at Christmas. We will be looking for a year 1 place for our daughter. I had thought we would like to live round the Romsey/ West Wellow area and emailed Hampshire City Council to ask where school places were available, just to get the heads up. They said there were no year 1 places available in the Romsey area. This is so different from up here - does this mean we should look elsewhere? Or do we find a place and once we have a postcode do they squeeze another child in to their catchment school? Really any advice or help from people who have been in the same predicament would be great!
Thanks.

Once you have moved to the area the council must find a place for you if there are none available within a reasonable distance. In that situation they can force a school to admit your daughter even if it is already full.

Thank you - that takes a weight from my mind. Means we can concentrate at looking at an area we like with a wealth of good schools which we would be happy with.
