Robust School Shoes for DD

Can anyone recommend robust school shoes for a girl age 9. We have been using Startright shoes, which literally look good for one day and then scuff and deteriorate badly and at £46 I'd expect something a whole lot better. I'd like to buy her the kind that boys have with a protective cap over the toe, but in slightly more feminine style - she's quite a tomboy but not to the extent that she could wear boys shoes!

I find Ricosta school shoes virtually bombproof. Are these the sort of thing you mean?

we just colour in the scuffed bits with permanent marker.... I have one with a pair of startrite and one with clarks and they seem similar for wear and tear (the startrite child has problems with the fit of the clarks styles)

I would have a look at brantano and see what makes they do as they have quite a good range normally.

Sorry I'm just fed up of the amount of time, money and stress, school shoes cause.

I think it's time the nations primary school parents just refused to buy them and refused to collect their DCs if rung up.

If DD left her school shoes under the trampoline, the choice was have wet feet all day, write a note begging on bended knee apologising or pretend to be ill.

At senior school she'd have no choice if she loses her shoes, she would have to be ill, it's fucking ridiculous.

I'd recommend Clarks.

Avoid the one's with the daisy dolls in the heals (or take the dolls out and glue down insole).

Oddly enough we've found the ones with patent leather at the toe last really well. Invest in water proofing (spray shoes the night you get them and leave them out to dry) & the tubes of black shoe polish with a sponge.

Also found that Kiwi shoe wipes work great for a quick clean up. (waterproofing, polish & Kiwi wipes kept DD1 shoe's looking great & her feet didn't change size for 4/5th of year 5)

Sorry about the rant, it just seems insane that DD2 very nearly didn't catch the bus, the other day, simply because of shoes, when she has plenty of shoes.

And yes Daisy insoles need glueing down or you get a very uncomfortable fold.

I am obviously cruel StarBallBunny - my daughters have a pair of school shoes and a pair of trainers, that is it. I work on the principle that if I am buying a pair of expensive school shoes then they will be worn as much as possible to get my moneys worth.

my DDs are secondary age, their feet grow much more slowly (if at all) and DD2 likes buying shoes with her pocket money.

She has grey and navy cheap pumos, bith of which would do a day at school, berfectly well except for the fact that uniform is more important than education.

We'd have got a massive bollocking if we repeatedly flouted the uniform rules, but our parents would have fallen about laughing at the idea of sending us home.

Home was 12 miles away. I had friends without, cars and/or without telephones. Most people had one car at work with DH, even if he was contactabke, he would have told the HT to take a running jump.

I can't recall them sending anyone home who was ill either.
