My DD will be taking the entrance test in Jan,2015. I called up the school and they said that no special preps are required. They will make the girls read to the teacher but that is not the case as everyone preps their kids.

I dont want to put the pressure on my DD before the test and thats why I want to prep her over the whole year.

Does anyone know what do they test for their year 3 entry? Is it too difficult to get in. We really really want her to get in.

Thanks :)

Hi Neena15,

The GHS admissions policy says:
"The entrance examination for ages 7+ and older will take place on Friday 10th January 2014 for entry in September 2014. For entry to the Junior School, the tests consist of written papers in English comprehension and creative writing, Mathematics and Verbal Reasoning."

The only reason for prepping her is a) if there are areas of the NC that her current school haven't covered which will be in the GHS 7+ entrance exams; b) if she's never done any verbal reasoning papers before c) if she has any area of weakness that could pull her overall score down too much.

b) is simple, you can pick up some Bond papers, for example, to let her get used to the format and gradually build up her speed. a) is more difficult to determine and perhaps most relevant for Maths. Again you can get work books that cover English comprehension and of course Maths. Perhaps encourage her to write stories (you could try the StoryWorld cards if this is a weak area)

If you know her NC levels this might help you to determine how difficult it might be for her to get in - again if you check the GHS website you will see that nearly 100% achieve a level three in their KS1 SATS. As well as being bright, I would say enthusiasm for learning is essential.

Good luck!!
