Changing schools - what to say to the current one...

We've been offered a place at very short notice at our 1st choice primary. They want DD and me to meet them on Friday to fill in all the forms, birth cert etc and for her to start on Monday morning!

Was wondering what one says to the current school? I don't have any issue with them, they're a Outstanding school in all sorts of ways, I just hugely prefer the one we have been offered a place at.

I've also recently started a new job and so don't do drop off/pick up so won't have an opportunity to speak to the staff in person.

Am going to have to wangle time off on Friday to see the new school, so can't really ask for more time to go in and see current one. Is it okay to email?

Current school is massively over-subscribed so they won't have any problem filling her place.

You don't have to say anything to them. They won't care if they will be able to fill the place and get the funding easily. Just tell them she's leaving and thanks for everything.

Phew... thought I'd have to send some huge long explanation. Will send email to school and a nice thank-you card to the teacher.

There's quite a tight deadline for new schools to get children on their books. I think (but may be wrong) that it's the start of October. That could be why the new school is pushing it through so quickly.

I would tell the teacher as soon as you're sure- it's quite unsettling to suddenly lose a child from your class, especially if you've planned activities to include them etc. Also, your daughter will want to say goodbye to people and check she's taken home her PE kit etc.
