We are moving from spain to uk soon and ds will go into p2. Can anyone give me real examples of the kind of reading/writing and maths level?

All i can find on line talks about stages and bands and classifications I don't understand, I need real examples to help see where he might slot in.

Can anyone help?

If he's born 1 January-31 August 2007 then he'd be in Year 2 at the moment, yes.

Reading Chest will give you some idea of average reading band levels -- check out the 6-7 bands to see roughly where an average child is expected to be (obviously some will be ahead of that and some behind).

that's great thanks. looks like he will be okay for reading, he is in spanish language school atm and they start at 6 here so here is in primary 1 and I am trying to gauge how he will fit in.

any examples of math work?

and i guess spelling. All his spelling is phonetic at the moment, do they have spelling lists in primary 2 I could start helping him on? he wont start until almost december ... and with strikes here he hasnt even started schoolwork this term yet! any prep i can do to avoid him feeling out of his depth would be amazing.

My DD is in year 2 this year...

Maths is sort of at this level I think [http://www.bbc.co.uk/bitesize/ks1/maths/ BBC KS1 Bitesize- Maths]

My DD got her spelling homework, was stuff like 'band' 'lent' 'bank' and some 'tricky words' like 'you' and 'was'

Where we are in northamptonshire, we use oxford owl, think its used across lots of schools and there are ebooks and activities..

Not sure about the phonics, we use them, but am not sure how widespread that is... Sorry I can't be a lot of help..
