DS is Y2 and has 12 words. They are given out every friday, the test is on the following friday.

None. School does them all in class now, they don't bring them home at all. DD (yr5) says they get 5 words at the beginning of the week which stay on the board and they practise them for 5 minutes every day, until they have a test on Friday. It's all very low key and relaxed.

The school stopped sending them home a few years ago, ditto with weekly homework (they do longer projects instead). School still does well with results and the kids all seem to be doing fine so it works for us.

DS is Y1 and hasn't come home with any yet.

Dd gets ten new ones every week, but gets a test on 17 words so the new ones and seven random from previous weeks. Less than ten means staying in at lunch time and writing out the ones that were wrong five times each.
Home work is generally a numeracy and a literacy sheet and four lots of reading to be signed. Missing any of that means it has to be completed in Golden Time instead.

DD is in Year 5 and has 10 spellings.

DS2 is in year 3 and has 20!

DD is in Y2 and never had spellings to learn. The school believes in learning by using the words not just plain memorising them and forgetting them a week later.

DS is in Y5 and has 15 words. DD is in Y3 and has 10. They both have to write sentences using 5 words.

DD will get 5 words after half term, then it goes up to 10 a week by easter. she's in reception.

DS gets 20 words a week, he's in year 5, they do alternative words and sentences as a class.
