Internet Safety for 7yo DD

DH works in IT. We have numerous Macs and laptops and tablets in the house. Full of wires and wireless stuff. Amusingly though, so far DCs have used IT very little at home. Even the Wii thing has not been unpacked post move (2 years ago).

DH has now got an old laptop he has prepared for DD to use. We have been debating how to keep her internet use safe (yep have heard the stories of pre-schoolers browsing cute fluff cats and then a few clock later seeing inappropriate stuff).

Please can anyone recommend a good book or website for DH/Me and or DCs to read to teach her about the dos ad don'ts.....ie if the link looks rude, don't click on it. Do not use your full name/real name as a user name for sites. Don't tell anyone your passwords etc.

Would rather have everything in one place to cover IYSWIM.

Thank you for your expertise

Check your parental controls, etc. But more importantly look at these together and talk about it:

OFSTED find the best e-safety happens by educating on what to do if ... rather than trying to just prevent exposure (which is fallible)

I knew someone here would be able to help! Have had a look and looks exactly what we need to start the conversations!

Thank you Flowers

our school did a talk a few months ago about internet safety - I couldn't go to the parents session but they did it for all children too explaining about the chat rooms and games which can be a danger. Perhaps ask if her school have information or plan to do anything similar to this.
