DD has brought me a schedule of when her homework is handed out and when it is to be returned. The subjects are math, English, spelling, and topic. Anyone know what "topic" is?

She'll be given the topic when they want her to start working on it! It's likely to be history/geog eg make a motte and bailey castle or something equally irritating.

The topic is the overall theme they have running through the term. Last year, I had one child doing 'Egypt' and another doing 'Little creatures'. It tends to tie together science, history, geography, etc.

When we use the term topic in a timetable it usually refers to science, history, geography, art, dt. We usually link some or all of hese to our topic. So over a 6 week half term we might have 3 topic lessons a week. Week 1 2 and 3 might have all 3 topic sessions be science or history to give a knowledge basis, then the rest may be art, dt, it to use more creative skills relating to the topic.

I really hope that makes some sort of sense!!
