What has your Reception child done the past few days at school?

Have you had any correspondence from the class teacher and what do you and your dc think of your new teacher?

No idea

He has eaten though, judging my his jumpers.

So far she's only been in for an hour and 45 minutes, because they phased the kids in over the first two mornings and we're towards the end of the alphabet. But it seems to have been action packed! She found out that she's a lobster (ocean-themed group names), saw the toilets, did some writing, had a snack and some milk, sang songs, listened to a story and had a 'naughty boy' stamp on her foot.

I think I found out more about what she did yesterday than I ever did during the whole last year of preschool! Suspect the chattiness won't last, though - I seem to remember doing 'nuffin' for most of my school career.

Gone on a bear hunt, painted a teddy bear, made a teddy bear with a handprint, learned about 'choosing pegs' don't ask me , had milk and snacks, made a best friend, read a book, drawn a picture of herself (and a cat), gone on the climbing frame and played with 'stuff' apparently!

We've had the school newsletter and a letter from the reception teacher - and we need to take in a picture of DD and her teddy next week, and the teddy the week after. And we know when the informal time to drop into the class to chat to the teacher and see how they've settled is, and when parents' evening is.

No idea really - my dd "can't remember"! She did say she drew a picture and she must have done some phonics as her teacher wrote about her in her reading book. She must have played outside as her white socks are covered in mud, her knees are skinned and her new shoes are scuffed!

She says she does like her teacher.

DD has spent her time playing and then she tidied up. I imagine it will be some weeks before they do any actual work.

DD started on Tuesday, she has worked on phonics and read to the teacher/TA every day, played word games on the magical board (interactive whiteboard), played how many spots on the ladybird in maths, something about treasuring water in a jug? (measuring maybe?), painted and made stuff (although apparently I'm not allowed to know what), learned a song about a mouse living under the classroom, had assembly and hymn practice (where she tells me she was taught 'hes got the whole world in his pants'), had PE and played in the sandpit a lot. Tomorrow she has her first music and French lessons.

We've had a welcome letter from the class teacher with an invite to a parents meeting next week, a timetable with what they are covering each lesson up til half term and a comment in her reading diary everyday, and we've had letters from the head and deputy head.

DD loves her new teacher and the teaching assistant and never stops with 'Mrs x says..'

I'm a Reception teacher and all your children sound like they are having a fabulous time! I love teaching Reception (this I my 3rd year) I taught Year 1 for 10 years previously and so wished I'd moved to Reception sooner.

The kids are so enthusiastic and today my puppet Number Norman appeared and I thought some of the kids were going to explode with excitement - love it!

My ds has been doing "lots of things mummy", which when I quizzed further included rolling things down a hill and playing with the camera. That's it so far according to ds!

DD has been rolling in the dirt. She really enjoyed that.
She learned a song about a banana.
According to the stickers received she has done good counting, she knows her sounds, good sorting and has excellent manners!
She has lost a cardigan.
She hasn't played with anyone (this is not true, I have insider information from my dinnerlady friend).
Her teacher is the most beautiful lady in the whole world

Getting into trouble :(

Mine did reading today - I think a phonics assessment to see what she already knows and she had to write pot, hen and something else. She has also made a best friend who she loves apparently!

DS2 started today. He ran in and said "Mummy you can go now I need to do my lessons!" Too confident for his own good, that one! Apparently he did some painting and told his teacher about concave and convex!!

Mine went for a wee the first day and the flush was easy. Went for a wee the second day but forgot to flush. Didn't go for a wee today.

Apart from that it's a bit of a mystery. He came home with a picture though, so that's something.

4th half day today - he says his teacher is very nice. Most days he "can't remember" or wants me to "stop asking" about his day. Then he warms up later and if I say nothing, I hear about little snippets. Lots of whiteboard stuff? Stories, songs, nursery rhymes and drawing. Played outside, has had snacks (fruit & milk) and they hang a pass around their necks when they go to the toilet. Only 2 can go at a time. he likes two boys the best and one of them thinks I am very tall (as in me!) Meeting the teacher for 10 mins later today then evening parent meeting scheduled for a couple of weeks time.

Ah, I've loved reading these comments, thank you everyone. My daughter doesn't start until 16th, so I have all of this to look forward to (although I think she will be one of the 'what goes on in school stays in school' brigade!).

I wish I could answer this! im so used to knowing everything he does all day im finding it hard to adjust to fact hes got his own life now that i'm not a part of! can you tell hes my pfb?
according to ds he's done "everything" and his favourite bit was ,''anything". he likes his teachers though and is enjoying himself so im not worried, just sad I'm not involved in most of his day...
havent spoken with teachers yet other than to check hes been ok, but days don't start properly till next week as reception has staggererd start so hopefully ill feel more in the loop once they actually start doing stuff.

"Don't know", but a lot of colouring is coming home in his book bag.
Half days last week. Half days and dinner this week. One dinner eaten, one not.

DD is loving school so far - a bit tearful going in, but fine once there. She loves her teacher and the TA.

She usually says she "can't remember" if we ask what she did, but it all comes out later on in the bath or at bedtime. We know she's done ordering numbers up to 10, some 'sounds', learnt some songs and did "side skipping" in PE . She has also sneaked back to nursery to play in the sandpit as her socks were orange! She has brought various junk models and pictures home and we are on the 3rd reading book (no words yet!). Most days she has eaten all of her packed lunch and bought toast at break.

She is more than keen to tell us about the "golden star" on the wall and the "naughty boys" who got their names taken off ad lost their "golden time" it for putting sand into the play kitchen! I can only imagine and trynot to giggle.
