Year 6 DS walking home

My Y6 DS wants to start walking home with two others from his class, no problems with this, we are ensuring they know which route to take etc. I know both the other mum's. My worry is that at the moment he is briefly in after school club twice a week. On those nights I will be back about four o'clock, and DS1 about five to four, while DS2 will probably get home between 3.45 and 3.50. Would it be unreasonable of me to give him a key to let himself in for 5-10 minutes on his own?

It should be fine if it is no longer than half an hour.

It should be fine, he's just the right age to be getting this sort of responsibility in preparation for highs school etc.

Obviously all children are different, but for the average 10 yr old this sounds fine :)

I'd say it's absolutely fine.

Thanks everyone, that was what I thought, but I just needed a few more opinions. DS2 has had plenty of experience of going out with DS1 over the summer, and will obviously need his own key next year anyway. He has a mobile and numbers he can call if he needs to, so I think we'll go for it.
