So, despite all of my best intentions, being totally organised Mummy this year..... DS went to school today with a big hole in the toe of his (not so new) school shoes!
I really thought I was sorted this year (DS in yr 5, so not like I haven't had enough years to get it right!) I checked everything last night, ironed the uniform, prepared the PE kit, packed the bags. Everything sorted - surely the shoes will be in the shoe cupboard! You know the ones that I bought at the end of last term? Nope, that would be the ones that I forgot to buy then!
So off DS trots to school, with a grimace on his face and a hole in his shoe, and off I race to Tesco to buy a new pair of shoes, slightly scaring the poor clothing assistant with my crazy "do you have any shoes in a size 5, I don't care what they look like, I'm desperate!"
Oh well, better luck next year! Lets see if I can finally get it right before secondary school!

afromom.....don't despair ...your child is not alone in the shoe department Grin

2 weeks before the end of last term ds's shoes were unwearable due to a big hole but I couldn't afford and did not want to buy him proper school shoes for 2 weeks so I bought him black trainer type things that would get use in the holidays .........

1st day ...yr6 ...and he is wearing them because I forgot to get him proper/smart ones !!! ( I took all the sand out though this morning !)

Off to clarks I suppose after school

Mine went back to school a day late once..... Had to hiss at them in the playground - pretend you were ill yesterday Blush

afromom · 03/09/2013 13:54

So glad I'm not the only one who gets things wrong Grin

I am hopeful for next year though... Yeah rightSmile

We went 1 day early. My DS1 has never ever glared at me like that ever. It was the 'death glare'.

RhinestoneCowgirl · 03/09/2013 14:00

We got text from the school on Sunday night reminding us about the inset day on Monday, it's a good system!

Nothing too untoward for us today - although I forgot that as DS is going into year 3 he doesn't get free fruit any more at break-time, cue 'what, no snack?'

gamerchick · 03/09/2013 14:01

I couldn't get my teen into shoes. Little sod went in plimsols.

Youngest I sheer forgot about and had to rush him to clarks this morning. So unorganised this year!

We all get there in the end.. that's what counts Grin

afromom · 03/09/2013 14:03

Oh god rhinestone! You've just reminded me I didn't send DS with snack either!!!!

I wait with baited breath to find out what else I have forgotten!

My sis forgot to pick her DS up yesterday. They finished early and she forgot. School had to call her and she rushed down. He held it together till they got out of the school and burst into tears. Poor mite. He is 9.

afromom · 03/09/2013 14:49

Oh no! Although given the day we have had so far I am keeping my eye on the clock!!!

Well, at least you had smothing to put him in!
DS1 starts in reception tomorrow.
Just ruing to school, and no, uniform won't be ready.
So, what is he supposed to wear?? I can do white shirts, and trousers, but school issue jumper and tie (he's 4!)? Not going to be able to majic that out of clean air, and due to the marvelous way they keep changing the catchment or street is in, he;s tho only on going to this school, the rest all go to one of 3 others......

Avondale · 03/09/2013 14:58

DS1 was dead excited to be going back today after a rocky end of summer term. I was really chuffed. But then lost him in the playground ( too busy chatting to the other mums) - and poor thing ended up in tears and all flustered Blush
Still, he had lovely new shoes on! Wink

lljkk · 03/09/2013 15:23

I've had DSs wearing school shoes with big holes in them. No biggie.

afromom · 03/09/2013 15:43

Oh no nextphase that's a bit of a downer for his first day. DS school had their delivery today, maybe it will be waiting for you when you arrive tomorrow?

I was strangely stunned today to end up leaving the house on time with book bags, water bottles, indoor shoes (one with new and one with last years but still good) and full pe kits including joggers and trainers.
One was in new shoes (but not named, couldn't find the label printer but at Y4 I would hope that is not too much of an issue) and the other still miraculously in last years still good shoes (how, he is a five and a half year old boy?!).
No jumpers sorted but was a lovely day thankfully, tonight's job is jumper sort out!).

Was a good job I remembered the pe kit, Y4 dd did PE unbelievably! Half the class had no kit and dd ended up sharing her kit and shoes with her kitless best friend lol!

I love first day of school, I now have nice tired kids ready for an early night!
