Primary schools in Exeter??

It looks like we will soon be moving back to Exeter Smile DD1 is just going into y1 so I am trying to find out about schools.

We used to live in St Thomas many years ago and I'm tempted to move back there as we really liked it plus houses are a bit cheaper, but does anyone know what the school is like? We are also considering Heavitree as we have friends who live there, and they say Ladysmiths school is good, and also Alphington as we saw a fab house there to rent. DH also likes the idea of Topsham...

We'll be renting to begin with so could move anywhere really- can anyone give me some names of good schools to look into and/or areas to avoid??

Update- I called school admissions and the only schools with Y1 places are Alphington, Redhills, Whipton Barton, Wynstream and Countess Wear. Anyone with experience of any of these schools??
