I got DS a backpack for spare clothes and PE kit but now I'm wobbling as to whether he should have a swim bag style one?

What's best? This school thing is a minefield!

It depends how big a peg he has to put it on.

Some schools specify drawstring bags so that they hang below the peg and leave the peg free for coats and other bags. A backback is easier for them to open and doesn't leave long strings trailing across the floor.

If you can use a backpack, I'd say go for it. I loathe chasing my class for leaving drawstrings dangling everywhere.
