Watching Horrid Henry

I am right to be feeling angry that my DC have been back at school for 5 days, and when the teacher had a meeting in the class with another teacher she let them watch 2 episodes of Horrid Henry??
We live in Scotland and the children in primary 3.
I feel the children are just back at school, not tired and ready to learn and should not be wasting time watching uneducational programmes at school.
I do let mine watch it at home, but that is my choice.

This really winds me up.
Ds will come home from school saying he's watched a film, it's been finding nemo, happy feet, tangled, Alvin & the chipmunks, to name a few. But then come home with piles of homework! (I didn't start getting hw till secondary school, apart from reading and spellings).
When you're 7 your time at home should be about doing family things, watching films, playing, not homework! If they have the need to send work home then they shouldn't be watching tv at school!

My DC only get reading homework and occasionally work they haven't finished in class, but when ask why they didn't finish it usually they have been pulled out to do reading.
Watching films in school really winds me up, I send my children to school to be educated!! I agree time at home should be family time, and as a family we choose not to watch many films!
IMO it seems to be an easy way out to keep children quiet in school!

I remember having a tv room at school and going in once a week to watch educational programmes.
But if the teacher was in a meeting or such we'd have worksheets or books to do.
Golden time in my son's school is Friday, I wouldn't begrudge them a bit of tv then but it seems like the norm to stick on a film whenever the teacher is busy.
I've had a word with a teacher in the past about this but nothing has been done.
It happens at my nephews school too in a different county.

At least I now know it happens in other schools! There teacher last year used to take the out and play rounders with them at the end of the day, when they were too tired to do much else. I didn't mind this, as at least they are getting exercise and learning a bit of hand eye co-ordination

I'm allowed to show one 'fun' film per term, generally on the last day. All other viewing has to be educational and support my lesson, eg i used a youtube timelapse video of plants growing to show how roots and leaves spread. There's no way my class would be watching tv if i was in a meeting, i have to set work for whoever is covering me.

How lazy is that? I don't mind at the end of term as part of a treat but not any other time.
