hiya all
my family (husband and two children) are going to move to Birmingham due to dh's job. we have done a bit of research and so far liked
solihull, bromsgrove and edgbaston. Are these areas okay?
We are looking to send them to independent schools. Again we have liked blue coat and solihull school.
please can anyone help me with any suggestions for better independent schools or other areas.
many thanks Wink

It depends how far you want to travel. In the Bromsgrove area you have Bromsgrove school (obviously!), but there are also all the Worcester schools which are withing about 25 minutes or so, and Winterfold House School which goes up to year 9.

There are nicer villages around Bromsgrove e.g. Belbroughton, Chaddesley, Hagley etc.

Solihull school has a great reputation locally for academic and sporting activities, never hear it mentioned re drama/arts/performing so depends what your dc are into. How old are they?
Edgbaston schools also well rated but living wise that's very different as you're much nearer the city and it's very urban. Bromsgrove and solihull both towns very near the country and similar in lots of ways, i've lived in both and still have friends in both - including one with children at winterfold who are doing very well.
I'd say schoolwise all fine, depends what kind of place you want to live.

If you want a village like atmosphere, I would consider Knowle and Dorridge where they would be able to attend Solihull school. House prices very high though.

Sorry to keep asking but anyone know what blue coat is like?
