Horsham

We are relocating to Horsham. Can anyone please tell me about kingslea primary and Horsham nursery school. I have three dc aged 3, 5 and 9. I would be very grateful if anyone can advise on letting agents and if there are any in particular to avoid. Am finding it really hard to find any decent rentals at the moment. Many thanks

If this is Horsham West Sussex I would recommend, Trafalgar Infants and Greenway Juniors. They were both amazing with my kids especially Greenway with my DS who is dyslexic/dyspraxic

Thanks somerzet yes it is Horsham west Sussex. The schools you mentioned don't have places at the moment but thank you anyway.

I went to Horsham Nursery school! Erm, that's probably a bit too long ago to be helpful! DS1 went there too, but that was 10 years ago and it was in it's old building then. It still has the same head though, and she was lovely.

Apart from that I don't know much about Kingslea, though I have heard it's good.

Letting agents we used Courtney Green. Again it was a while back (we moved out of Horsham 6 years ago) but they were always very good. Leaders is another agency, I don't know much about them, but haven't heard anything negative.

I went to the infant and junior schools that were amalgamated to make Kingslea! Again, my experience probably a little too long ago to be interesting.

But, on the wider topic of Horsham: it's a nice town, far enough from London to not be full of commuters, but close enough that you can if you want. Lots of young families, but a bit dull for teenagers (which may or may not be a bad thing).

I went to Kingslea (though it was called Chesworth then), but as far as I know it's still a great school.

Horsham is a fab place to live, great amenities, good transport links, lovely town centre with a good market on Thursday and Saturday, close to countryside and the coast - if we could afford to move back we would!

I love Horsham, I grew up there. We couldn't afford to stay there so moved away, not far though.

My DH went also went to Kingslea when it was Chesworth!

I have friends with children at Kingslea who are happy with the school. Most schools in Horsham have a good reputation. Horsham nursery school is very popular.
Horsham good place to live. Great transport links to London and within easy reach to Gatwick airport. You can get to the coast within 30 minutes.
Was it only Kingslea with spaces or were you offered any other schools?

I am a childminder whose daughters went through Kingslea (St Leonards/Chesworth) who still picks up children from the school & I have had minded children attend the Nursery School next door. I feel that Kingslea is a good school with a wide mixture of children which has a good pastoral care feel to it. The Nursery School is good although you are limited to 5 sessions either mornings or afternoons & I expect most places are available in the afternoons as the mornings fill quickly, there are however some good Playgroups & preschools in the town who might have spaces still. I don't know about letting agents so sorry can't help there.

Thanks all. I have also been offered Shelley, st johns catholic school, leechpool and various ones in villages outside Horsham. Finding it very difficult to secure a rental property as things are flying off before I even get to see them. Although saw one and it had open stairs and the gaps where huge a child could easily slip through. The landlord was not prepared to do anything about it.

Shelley & St Johns are preferable to Leechpool for a lot of people & the surrounding village schools I believe are all good so no problem there. Good luck with your house hunt. The house next door to me will be going back on the rental market soon as my neighbours have moved out, but I'm told the landlord is going to be redoing the kitchen & bathroom plus redecorating so don't know when that will be happening. His houses are let through Lines & James I believe, so you could try them.

Also if you are in need of childcare before/after school & playgroup/nursery check the availability of childminders or after school club places for that particular school as some schools have childminders or clubs with very few spaces. You can always message me if you want to know more.

It is a 3 bedroom Victorian semi, this particular landlord owns quite a few in my part of the town including both either side of me & we have no problems to speak of with him as a landlord. On street parking, but with residents permits which generally makes it easier, at least during the day. We are only a 5 minute walk from the station & 10 minutes walk into the town centre.

Thanks for your reply badger. We are looking for a four bed with parking as we have two cars. The council has told us it's a two year wait for a second permit the house I looked at before was on Chichester Terrace so that was permit parking. Have also been told there is a shortage of rentals because people are renting in catchments areas of the good schools then they move back to their own house once their child is in. Didn't think it would be so difficult to find a house!

Chichester Terrace is so close to the the town I can understand a two year wait for parking, the zones further out from town centre should be better, we are zone D but adjacent to Zone E which I think is more restrictive than ours. I agree four bed house are harder to find but they do come up, good luck.

Hi could anyone give some feedback on kingslea primary - we are moving to Horsham and DD is y1. We would be renting centrally so can be near the train station for commuting xx

Kingslea Primary is considered a good school with a lovely friendly feel to it. The pupils are reasonably diverse but all are welcoming as are the staff.
The headmaster has been there for years (from when it was just a junior school) and the pupils respect him.
It is a school that is usually oversubscribed, so might not have any spaces unless you are lucky & move in as someone leaves.

Sorry they don't have either and there are only a few of us childminders who cover the school, if you pm me I can give you the contact details of the other 2 I know of, (I currently don't have any vacancies).

I have just started another thread on DIY section but not sure if that's the right place. Anyway me and DH are thinking about moving to horsham with DS. Anyone here who could give me a bit more information about horsham?

What would you like to know about Horsham. I'm a childminder in the town & have lived here for 30+ years & in the area all my life!
