Hymns about friendship.

Hi. I am planning next term's Collective Worship and I need a couple of suggestions for hymns on the theme of friendship.
I listened to 'What a friend I have in Jesus' on youtube and feel the words are fairly inaccessible to the average primary school child.
Any suggestions for something primary friendly?

I don't think it's inaccessible at all

But what about

the family of man
Or
one more step along the world I go

How about 'Bind us together' or 'Jesus' love is very wonderful'. If the focus is that the love we have one another is a reflection of the love that God has for us, then 'he's got the whole world in his hands' would work?

Chubfuddler ... perhaps I should look at it again. Such a good tune. Our HT likes modern, though. Vicarlady, I am looking at lots of different versions of Jesus' Love in different languages from all over the world on youtube; an extra bit about Christianity around the globe! Will put that on my list.

One More Step is already a favourite, as is He's Got The Whole World.

I was going to suggest 'one more step'. What about 'When I needed a neighbour'?

What about If I had a Hammer

"When Im palying in the park......thank you for my friends" in one of the a and c black singing books, not sure which one as I dont have them at home over the holidays.
Also my all time favourite, "Thank you for waking me this morning" Has a verse about friends. You could find the lyrics by googling I think.
Do you belong to Singup? you would probably get some good ideas there.

storynanny · 04/08/2013 17:49

playing not palying

Singup is sounding like a good idea; I keep hearing about it.

Noting all these ideas. Thank you!

"love is something if you give it away" - it's a real favourite in our house.

Sing up used to be free but now it's a yearly fee. Definitely worth it as the teachers can then access it on their class whiteboards and go over the songs with their class......haha if they can fit it in round their busy plan! New songs are still being added I think añd there is an easy search facility. I use it in assembly in some schools I work in as well to display the words.

storynanny · 05/08/2013 11:17

Ps you can access it to see what songs are on it without paying the fee and I think you can still listen to a sample. Nice holiday homework for you!

"Cross Over the Road my Friend" is a big favourite in my school, it links to the Good Samaritan story really well.
