Does anyone know how the scoring works?

My son achieved 38/50 in the level 6 grammar punctuation and spelling test. Would this be a 6c or 6b?

Thank you!

It would just be a level 6.
Schools can, if they want for internal tracking procedures, split the marks up. As the pass mark was 37, 38 would be a very low 6.

Thank you. My son has just moved from a school that used a, b & c marks and was disappointed to get level 5 & 6 grades but no a, b or c!

The "official" result that comes from the DfE and is printed out by most schools has the whole levels. Schools then generally create their own sub levels from the raw scores. But each school can calculate them slightly differently-there is no set way other than dividing the threshold in three ( which is fine if the number is a multiple of 3, slightly less so if not!) . So the sub level thresholds MAY vary by 1-2 marks between different schools. If you know the scores, you can work out the sub levels yourself! ( Or we can do it for youGrin )

as the whole level.

Thank you! He sat all the level 6 papers but only passed the GPS. With the 3-5 papers he scored very high 1-3 points from top marks so I'm pretty sure they are high level 5a's!

5a was 46 for reading, 66 for SPAG and 94 for maths ( just in case!!)

and??

spanieleyes · 29/07/2013 12:29

and what?
The OP thought her son would have high level 5A's, I was giving the threshold for 5A so she could check that was the case!
Sorry if I've missed the point, I'm in holiday mode Grin
