Reception report - Help confused about the reception report

Can anyone tell me what emerging, expected and exceeding mean and the level my DS is at. He scored 6 expected and 11 exceeding including maths and reading. Does that mean he is above average? I have had mixed messages about what the scores mean. I would be grateful if a reception or year 1 teacher can comment too. Thanks

It's pretty obvious really. Expected is on target & means they have met the early learning goal for reception.

Exceeded means they are achieving above target, and have exceeded the early learning goal for reception.

it means he is doing fine, expected is where they hope they will be at the end of reception and the exceedings mean he is doing better than they expect at the end of reception.
