Any successful appeals, please give me hope!

I recently posted about making an in year application and moving to an area that has good schools which are heavily oversubscribed (Trafford).

I have read threads on here and all seems bleak if we go ahead and make the move.

Has anyone had a successful in year transfer and/or appeal?

Thanks in anticipation, please give me hope!

The LA will find you a place somewhere but it may not be at one of your preferred schools. If your child would be going into Reception, Y1 or Y2 it is likely that any appeal would be infant class size. That means you should only win if a mistake has been made which deprived your child of a place - very unlikely for an in year application. If your child is going into Y3 or later you have a better chance of winning an appeal.

For what it is worth I won an infant class size appeal (at least, the LA said it was ICS - they were wrong) to get my youngest son into our local primary school having moved too late for the normal admissions round. It took two appeals and two references to the LGO to get it sorted but I won in the end. That is what got me started with advising parents on admissions and appeals.

There is hope and you should not be put off just because there is negative comments on here, about not winning cases. The average across the UK is that 30% of cases are won but you do have to be realistic about what schools are possible to win cases for and the restrictions that infant class size regs put on appeals.
