washing school ties

DD came home from preschool with paint on her brand new school tie (we had a school visit earlier in the day). Although the care label says it can be machine washed at 50, is this a bad idea? I don't want to have to buy a new tie before the school year even starts. Thanks for any tips!

Soak the paint off in a bucket of cold water overnight first, then just ash at 30 or 40 I'd say - if it didn't come out you could always wash again.

Thanks BackforGood - I'll try that. She wanted to show her friends at preschool her new school uniform, which includes a tie (verdict is still out on this one). I am wondering why on earth she wasn't wearing an apron for painting, myself!
