6 year old way below average on school report

We moved house straight after being given the report (he was given it on his last day) so I couldn't ask the teacher!

Basically for everything they reported on he was way below what the little chart identified as being average for his year, for maths it was 52 average but he got 21....no idea what this means.

For reading and writing it simply said "minimum standard not reached".

To me this is a terrible report I mean you can't really argue otherwise can you!

The teachers comment was "great report - well done".

My ds is clearly struggling with everything, he started a new school week after we moved but with it being the end of the year it will be next year before they do any work really.

I am really worried!. I thought he was slower than my older dd picking up reading but I didn't realise he was quite that far behind. Does anyo e have any advice ?

Which country are you in, please, and which year are we talking about, ie year1, year2 (dep on when his birthday falls)

Has the old school broken up? If not, I'd suggest phoning and asking to talk to someone. You could ask them to explain what it all means, suggest what you can do during the hols to help, and you can ask whether they pass information on to the new school, and if not, what you should be telling the new school.

having, I wonder if it's simply that he hasn't clicked yet. If he's only 6, then does that mean he's just through Yr1? Lots of kids don't really get school and writing/ reading until yr2. My son was deemed 'below normal levels' for everything in yr1, but he's now the best reader in his class in yr4 and doing well across the board. In other words, don't panic!
