Just that really. Had odd meeting with school about DD's maths. They only use optional SATS score in yr 4...she did well on mental maths (Level 4) but only got a 3B assessment so am trying to figure out what went wrong on the main test. They have the raw score but can't say what level it was.

As she's made 2 sub levels progress over Yr 3 and Y4 we're worried but the school isn't as she's still on target. Their lack of concern, or even awareness that 2 sub levels is an issue, worries me so it's time to get involved and understand what's going on.

Any help welcome.

do they not give you a teacher assessed level as well? Dd is in year 3 and she had a level for the optional year 3 sat test plus a teachers level. the teachers level was one sub level down from the test but to me is the more accurate one.

Nope - not teacher assessment!

TBH I'd prefer teacher assessment but it seems all based on the test. At least that what was said today.

That's ridiculous - I would start by asking why they only feel able to comment on 45 minutes of your dd's school year, instead of her day to day working the other 38 weeks of the year?

My DS (Y4) had QCA tests and we asked to see the Maths one so we could see what areas we need to work on. They wouldn't give us the actual test but we did get a breakdown of % score in each of 9 topics tested, which quite clearly showed us he doesn't get shapes and measurement. Or he didn't he didn't get them that day, in the test.

Can you see if they can give you a topic breakdown at all?

They seem obsessed with SATs and I've asked for the tests...they've given me a raw score which I'm trying to understand. They happily told me her mental maths is level 4...but her overall mark was 3B so I'm trying to understand what went on.

I'd ask to see the paper. As a parent you are entitled to have any work your child completed during the year. A photocopy would do fine. I would have been very happy to go through a paper with a concerned parent.

That's a good idea wizard - will do.
