Questions on possible primary appeal and PAN- HELP!

Hi

Didn't get our DS into his first choice school this year- got 2nd choice. Have been debating whether to appeal (didn't think much point as based on infant class size and no mistakes made). I have the forms but still thinking about it as something to consider if waiting list doesn't come up trumps or DS is really unhappy at second choice school.

Had a few questions though.

-Firstly, PAN is 15. Can someone explain PAN in relation to mixed age classes? so is PAN the number that can be admitted to reception, or throughout rec, year 1 and year 2 in the year? So if a child in year 1 left for example, does this make any difference to our spot on the waiting list?

-Secondly, appeal-wise, i know a couple of children did get in on appeal for other reasons but one other child has turned down their place. So school has had to make provisions for having two additional children. Now they only have one extra. i'm guessing I couldn't use this as part of an appeal, i.e by saying that school had already made provisions for two?

-thirdly, just wondering how waiting lists work over summer? if say a place became available just wondered how things would all get coordinated with teachers on hols- is it likely we wouldn't hear anything til september?

Thanks!

PAN stands for Published Admission Number. It is the number of children that will be admitted to the normal year of entry - Reception in this case.

A child leaving from Y1 will not make any difference to your position on the waiting list for a place in Reception.

No, you cannot use previous successful appeals in the way you suggest. They may have made provision for two more but they have to get back down to the infant class size limit again before any more are admitted.

Regarding what happens over the summer holidays I can't give a simple answer. You may get an offer during the holidays or you may not. It depends on what systems are in place to handle the waiting list.
