I am looking for a descriptive text for a year 4 child to use for an exercise. What I need is something that paints a vivid verbal picture and I wold like the child to draw what they believe is being described. Initially I thought of Gollum but I think the style of some of the language is too advanced. Can anyone help?

Sally Grindley's Spilled Water has a nice description of a view from a window in a Chinese city (somewhere in the middle of the book!) which I've used in y5 literacy before. Or there's some great descriptive passages about the Brazilian rainforest in Eva Ibbotson's Journey to the River Sea.
