reports for reception children?

Ds is coming to the end of his reception year, and from what I've seen on MN lots of people are getting end of year eyfs reports. is this standard at every school? Nothing has been mentioned, we haven't had a parent's evening since before Easter and I have no idea how he's doing (ok I guess or we would have been told?).

Communication at school has gone rapidly downhill this term, this is yet another example of parents not knowing anything until the last minute (last week it was the reception classes being mixed up for year 1). So should we expect anything or not?

our last parents evening was before Feb half term. We are apparently getting reports on monday. I knew there were some reports because I remembered reading it in the welcome pack but they only mentioned it yesterday.

I think they have to report to you in some form so I would just quickly ask the teacher at pick up 'I was just wondering if DS will get a report at the end of this term?' and they will be able to tell you.

of course what it actually TELLS you varies. Some people seem to get very useful ones with lots of nice blurb about their children, others have literally had a tick sheet of the EYFS 17 areas and only a sentence about their child. It depends on the school but I would be very surprised if you didn't get a report of some sort.

I think it's a legal requirement to give parents an annual report so I would definitely question it if you don't get one - the date of annual reports being issued has been in the weekly school newsletter for ages.

Our last parents evening was before Easter I thnk.

Sold be getting reports at end of this week or during next week. Usually at least a couple of days before end of term so you can raise any issues with teachers.

Our year one classes are always mixed up - to improve dynamic since at reception intake the school don't fully know the new starters.

Same as others. Parents evenings in Dec and March, then a full report this week. Legal requirement so you should get one

Thank you. Have not been into school much lately as just had a baby so dh been on school run duty. Will ask him to ask the class teacher tomorrow when we are likely to receive anything. I had also been worrying about the class split but that sounds quite usual too. I think he would benefit from being split from some of his friends!
