Who is it that won't assess him yet? If he got 0/40 he obviously either doesn't know his initial letter sounds or isn't blending at all yet. For someone with these difficulties, I would expect the school to have a fairly strong programme of support in place. He should be on an IEP (individual education plan) with personalised targets. I would also expect the school to be looking ay assessing him further through an educational psychologist.

Is any of this happening? What are the school saying?

My son is in year 2 and 7 next month. He scored 5 on the phonics test. He's showing very strong markers for dyslexia and he also has many autistic traits, hyper mobility and speech and language problems.

my son is showing signs of dyslexia and dyspraxia just getting impatient waiting for ed psych report as had to wait till he was 7 just to see her is your son getting assessed?

If your son has global delay why weren't his needs identified before he started school? Having to wait until 7 is ridiculous good luck

they just said he might catch up but now they say he is too far behind to catch up his old school was useless they just said hes struggling in all areas but its fine we have worse so moved him to new school who are great referrered him for occupational therapy.and he gets speech n language they have him on one to one but teachers were honest and said they arent sure how to teach him until he seen edpsych but local council said wait till 7 he might catch up its a nightmare getting other agencies to help but finally getting somewhere n thanks
