Y2 Level 1 in Sats

feeling frustrated and upset for my son only getting a 1 in his SATS, we knew it was coming as he's struggled with reading/writing since starting school. His behaviour isn't good and struggles to concentrate.
I've been going on for ages about the fact his Dad and all his family are dyslexic but nothing is being done about it. What more can a parent do other than speak to the teacher on a daily basis, write to the head teacher, ask for the SENCO to be involved.
Then my daughters teacher who is in year R speaks to me and says she's behind on her reading and they will be sending her lower level books as she isn't blending the sounds to create words. Meh I want to cry.

Hi, I haven't been in this situation but I didn't want to leave you unanswered. Could you contact your doctor and ask for an assessment of his behaviour? Or go privately and see an educational psychologist or similar? I know several friends with dyslexic children, but none have had extra help before about Y3 as they've been told things like the child needs to be at least two years behind. With the family history of dyslexia, you need to keep pushing. Can't the school SENCO do an assessment too? Also, do you think the bad behaviour is linked to the difficulties with reading and writing or do you think it is a separate issue?

Hi, my dd only got level 1 in Y2 SATS. She had always struggled and being one of the youngest in the year didn't help! We ended up changing schools as her first school were useless, they just thought she was lazy or stupid. Her current school has been much better - SENCO involved and lots of extra help. We also employed a private tutor, who dd still sees once a week. English is now much better, apart from spelling (we thought possible dyslexia also).
Does your son get any extra help at all? The school should have a plan put in place for him.

I think you will have to push for support/assessment/help regarding the possible dyslexia. I think they can test them in Yr2 so they should certainly be looking into it in the autumn. As he hasn't achieved the levels expected then they should put something in place for him I would think.

has she been teacher assessed as a level 1 in reading, writing and maths?

Thanks all. I will keep pushing

I think his behaviour is a separate issue!i will certainly keep on at the school.
