It's so intense!
The school really do go to town. Show, disco, Leaver's assembly, Bowling party, trip to the beach........
I think a calmer approach to transition to Secondary school would suit her better.
Any advice for keeping her on an even keel over the next fortnight? It's 'Goodbye Overload'!!

oh bless her its all so crazy isn't it! My DD was not ready to leave but seemed to embrace it anyway. Keep talking honestly, i.e. Its ok to be sad or feel excited (whatever is applicable to her). Maybe if U can go to the cafe at the park or costa (other coffee shops are available!)Have some quiet time in all the madness but most of all remember that this is helping her build her memories, busy and stressful but hopefully fun!! let us know how it goes!

Thanks Bigmumma. Sadly, I'm up to my eyes in my Year 6 leavers stuff- I'm a head with lots of experience in Y6, so you would think I was prepared...........but I really do need to carve out more time. Trying to give as much as possible.
Just can't wait for 24th......then I'm all hers for 4 weeks.
She had her SATs results today which gave her a boost- 5, 5, 6. So proud. She has organised a picnic with all her friends on Sunday.

I feel a bit Envy reading this. If we lived in a two tier system Yr6 DS2 would be going to High School this September. But no, he goes in Year 8. making Year 6 end of term a bit meh.

Ledkr · 10/07/2013 20:21

I have just driven a stressed headachy anxious tired dd to her school play.
She also had important dance exams which are clashing a bit.
I feel the same.
I'm so glad we are going away the day after they break up.
It's a bit silly isn't it?
I'm trying to go for as much sleep as possible and lots if cuddles.
Poor things.

spudmasher · 10/07/2013 20:21

Yes, there comes a time to move on.
DD2 does not cope well with change though bless her. She loves her friends. Only one is going to be at her Secondary, but that's the way it goes. Add in a massive does of hormones and it's drama all the way!!!
I would not relish half a term with Year 6 who were not moving on!! It's tough to make stuff interesting and relevant after SATs. DDs school went bananas about SATs . My school does not make a big deal, so we just trundle on with our routine and learning. We are bottom of the league tables though! But our kids are happy!

Ahh Ledkr, our dance exams were CANCELLED!!! Hooray! Now that really would have been stressy!!
The heat does not help. It's so hard to get to sleep.
Getting away is a fab thing. We fly at 10am on the 25th.....hope you're going somewhere nice.

Yes the heat adds stress plus our car was written off last week and photo licence out if date so no courtesy car till tomorrow, both working and hard work baby.
Lucky you re exams today I took her early from modern (cross teacher) to take her late to play (cross teacher)
It's nearly driven us mad.
Big cuddles in a bit when she's home.
She's sooo tired.
Special brekkie at school tomorrow though so that's nice.

Ledkr · 10/07/2013 20:57

Oh we are off to south of France for three weeks in our camper.
Pure bliss.

spudmasher · 10/07/2013 21:00

Heaven!!! Enjoy the holiday. Until it comes, lock yourself in the bathroom and have a long, cool shower. Hope your DD has a good end to the term.

Ah but spudmasher I suspect being a Head doesn't prepare you for half that parenting throws at you! The enjoyable but crazy rollercoaster that is parenting! Well done to her for her results! Picnic in the park will be a good wind down for them all, I am a great believer that the simple things are the best wind down.
