Maths puzzles for a 6 year old

My DS loves maths and likes to do sums for fun. No, I don't get it either. He likes suduko, and I've bought him a book of these. I seem to remember doing something called maths investigations at school in which the aim was to figure stuff out. I'm sure he'd love something like that.

His reading isn't great so ideally I am looking for something that will satisfy his maths love whilst helping him with his reading.

I'm not planning to force him into anything. I am well aware the school hols are coming up. He just loves doing this kind of thing. He also loves gardening, sport and building stuff. We play chess too.

There is a whole series. They are a bit like the old Choose Your own Adventure series.

Also, with the reading, does he like the Beano? I think it seems to appeal to children who like to read patterns etc. DS2 basically likes maths questions, the Beano, and reading music...

Get him the dragonbox app. It's algebra disguised as a game. My 6 year old can now do fiendishly difficult algebra (GCSE ish level) - not because he's particularly good at maths, just because it's a fabulous game.

My six year old loves maths. We play a lot of board games. Monopoly has helped with adding and subtracting three digits and Cluedo is good for deductive reasoning and the application of logic. I might download the dragonbox app mentioned above as that sounds right up his street.

I got dragonbox following a suggestion on here and think it's fantastic. My mum is a maths teacher and also thought it was great.

Thanks for these, I will look into the suggestions. He LOVES monopoly with a passion!

He did a puzzle earlier in his Lego book which was basically algebra and loved it so that app sounds right up his street.

He likes designing stuff too - he made a really effective child lock last year when we were away on hols and his brother kept escaping, so ideas for projects like this would be great too.

I'm more of a reading person so I find it really hard to come up with things that will entertain him.

We started the maths quest book last night and my DS loved it! My little reluctant reader and writer enthusiastically wrote down the clues and wanted to finish it last night. Fantastic suggestion, thank you so much.
