How much should I be worrying?

Just received report on our 7 yr old son. He's in yr 3 and youngest in class and has a 3c for maths, 2a for reading and 2b for writing .

The major comment was around him switching off in class and not listening, but does well in small groups.

His confidence has dropped in school this year and I sense he is switching off because he can't understand something straight away (he is quite competitive and wants to be good at everything!) but seems to be switching off when he doesn't get it straight away.

Any advice appreciated on wether this is a big issue and what we can do over the holidays to help him for September? Both academically and also any tips on helping them to concentrate / listen more?

Any chance his hearing isn't 100%, eg has had major allergic reaction to dust/pollen/other allergens and his Eustachian tubes are blocked? It doesn't have to be anything permanent and might be worth looking into. If he's OK in small groups he may be able to hear better then.

Those levels look pretty similar to my son's when he was in yr 3. Look ok to me. Most kids move up one or 2 Sub level s every year. On average a whole level every 2 years. So level 4c in maths by year 5 and 3b/3a literacy. Looks like he will reach his target for end yr 6.

Thanks for the reply jkklpu, am booking him in for a hearing test, just in case, it did occur to me that it could be fine thing like that, so will get checked thanks,

Lady emem , I have until recently been fairly laid back sbout the grades etc as I think this I'd more a case of immaturity at present but the teachers have really made it sound likes its a problem and that he's currently bumping along the bottom which is not a good place for ds as I think he needs to feel he is achieving to further his achievement, if that makes sense.
