Year 1 Phonic Test

Hi all, would love some reassurance from year 2 parents that failure in this will not hamper my dd going forward. She can read quite well but up to now has had no interest in it. It has been an uphill battle to get her to read anything (she would rather be out playing or drawing!) She is just starting to engage with it but unfortunately too late for this test!

Would love to hear how children from last year's cohort that didn't quite make the grade on this test coped in year 2 as I'm worried my dd will get left behind.

Thanks

It isn't meant to be a pass/fail test. It's a screening to identify which children need extra support onwards up the school in the specific skill of decoding.

You need to talk to her teachers about what they will be doing to provide that support next year. And always bear in mind that wider literacy and attitude to reading is a separate thing.

DS failed in Y1 and has just failed again in Y2. She is a fairly fluent reader. I have to say I think it's nonsense.
