Excepted pupils - proper definitions

Can anyone show me the proper definition of the above, particularly in respect of the Military/Crown personnel category?

Does this only apply if one is being posting or can this be used at any time? Thanks.

Children of UK service personnel are excepted if they are admitted outside the normal admissions round. So if you applied for your child to start in Reception this September your child would not be excepted. However if you were now applying for a place in the current Reception, Y1 or Y2 your child would be excepted. That doesn't necessarily mean that you will get a place at your preferred school.
