School fair - Pimms tent advice

Hi

Not sure if this is the best place to post this. We have a temporary event licence for a Pimms tent at our school fair but this applies for 500 people. There will be way more than that at the fair, though not all drinking Pimms at the same time. Does this mean we need to keep them in the tent enclosure to keep the drinkers away from the other 1000 or so people, or can they roam free around the school field with their PImms. The lady at the council seemed to suggest the former but I reckon that sounds a nightmare - trying to make sure people stay in one place with their drink when their kids maybe elsewhere?

Any advice would be appreciated - we've never done this before and want it to work.

Thanks
Genee

I think you need to have a separate "bar area". When we have done it at our large school summer fair we have had the bar in an area which is basically an outdoor sports court and is surrounded by netting. It would not fit more than 500 inside it. As far as I understand the licensing law, the licence is for the area where alcohol is "sold" - I'm not sure that where it is consumed, once sold, actually matters that much... I'm no expert though - I think you'd need to double check, without raising suspicions at the council too much as you don't want them to visit on the day!
