IB primary curriculum and writing

Does anyone know how the IB curriculum introduces writing? Background is DS will be starting the equivalent of reception at an IB school in September. He is 4 at the end of September - ie he is going to be ahead a year (we're not in the UK and this was the schools recommendation after assessment).

DS's fine motorskills aren't great. I'm concious this is probably largely a muscle development thing. Until recently I assumed he would be heading for preschool so wasn't worrie. I've now seen the work of a child who would be in the same school year who can.properly write and now I'm worrying DS will struggle.

So: (1) what is 'normal' for writing going into reception and (2) does the IB curriculum introduce writing at the same stage as the English curriculum or later like the French curriculum? Do I need to spend the summer coaching DS to be able to write his name?!
