DS2 is nearly 5 and is a lovely, passionate, heart-on-his-sleeve boy. He is touchy feely in everything- incredibly physically affectionate, moves in different ways depending on his moods and expresses emotions very physically, when he counts on his hand he has to touch his fingers against his nose for the count to "register"- and I wonder if he's the sort of child who learns best through movement and tactile methods. He seems like a square peg in a round hole at school and has struggled to fit in- both in terms of making friends and settling into the usual norms of school life (basically his behaviour hasn't been great and he just doesn't seem to get the purpose of school, he's a bit bored by some of it). He has always really needed a strong relationship with one adult in an environment - ever since nursery- and the class he is in has 6 different teachers during the week which bewilders him a bit I think.
I don't know much about this area but can anyone point me in the direction of any resources, for reading in particular, that might help him if he does prefer this tactile sort of approach? Or just share any stories about your similar children?
