Where I live (Greater London), the primary schools start back on 3 September. I know this varies across the country. What dates do other local authorities go back?

ChoudeBruxelles · 25/06/2013 20:16

Leicestershire - 29 August. We break up a week earlier than everyone else thoug

nulgirl · 25/06/2013 20:16

Think anyone in Scotland will easily beat that. Our schools go back on the 14th August. Last day of summer term is tomorrow though.

stressynessy · 25/06/2013 20:19

I thought Scotland was earlier. Leicestershire 29 August - that's bank holiday week.

Ours is 3rd September

MirandaWest · 25/06/2013 20:21

We start back Wednesday 4th but have got two inset days that week.

In Leicestershire does that mean a child could be 3 when they started school?

stressynessy · 25/06/2013 20:22

Where are you CaptainSweatPants?

Yep after bank holiday and yes they could be 3 but most primaries start their reception classes the following Monday. We break up on 12th July

IwishIwasmoreorganised · 25/06/2013 20:23

Sep 4th here, break up 23rd July

Galena · 25/06/2013 22:26

choude, how does that work? Teachers' contracts don't stsrt until 1st September in England. some teachers will not be employed on Aug 29th.

SquirtedPerfumeUpNoseInBoots · 25/06/2013 22:31

Break up this Friday 28th, half day.
Back to school 29th August, although the week before that is made up of staff development days and year 8 and year 13 induction days.
Northern Ireland.

WhoKnowsWhereTheTimeGoes · 25/06/2013 22:34

3rd September in Hampshire too.

Foosyerdoos · 25/06/2013 22:38

We are in Scotland, break up on the 5 th and go back on the 20 th or 21 st as there are a couple of inservice days.

Foosyerdoos · 25/06/2013 22:39

20 th of August.

BooksandaCuppa · 25/06/2013 22:39

One of our local secondaries bucks the trend of all the other local primaries and secondaries and does the one week early breaking up and going back thing (I guess the same as Leics). So I suppose they may have some 10 year olds starting secondary too?

indyandlara · 26/06/2013 09:02

Break up on Friday at lunch time. Staff back on the 12 th of August, kids on the 14th. That's Edinburgh where I teach. We live in Midlothian though and my daughter finishes on Friday and isn't back until the 21st. We live 7 miles away from where I work!

ChoudeBruxelles · 26/06/2013 12:12

Don't know how it work. Leicestershire has always gone back early - traditionally July fortnight here was the first two weeks of July.

When I was at school we would go back before the bank holiday weekend

witchface · 26/06/2013 18:56

13th august here in ne scotland

PotteringAlong · 26/06/2013 19:00

2nd September for Gateshead

Saracen · 30/06/2013 00:13

Crikey - a 29 August start date in England means that a few children will actually start Reception still aged 3!

BackforGood · 30/06/2013 17:10

Birmingham Mon 2nd - but obviously a lot of INSET days. IME schools taking 2 now on those first days back in Sept.

mrz · 30/06/2013 17:23

Monday 2nd Sept
