DS?s junior school changed to an academy in April and so far the major changes have been ? um ? well ? they changed the school letterheads ? um ? well actually not a lot.

There are two ?brands? of academy ? those schools that are seen to be failing and are or less compulsorily converted ? think that might be where you?ve seen bad press.
DS?s school falls into the second brand ? they have voluntarily opted out of LEA control for a variety of reasons and the change has been marketed as only positive.

And as I say, I?ve not noticed any practical changes at all (so far) but time will tell.

DD's new school have just done the same.

They've been Ofsted Outstanding for years and have one of these super-Heads who are sent into other failing schools to bring them up to standard.

The primary my DH has been a governor of for 10 years has also been Outstanding for years. They are also thinking of opting for Academy status.

There can be a lot of pros for the school - plus a good big dollop of ££.
