Why is year five an important year?

I keep hearing this from other mothers.

Is it because we are in a grammar school area and the 11+ is taken at the beginning of Y6?

Or am I totally missing something? Confused

nothingnew thank you for being so honest. I think in RL a lot of parent don't admit what they actually do to prepare their DC for the 11+.

I have chosen to put my DC on a bus for 1.5 hours a day (with 3 DC this will be expensive), and send them to a true comprehensive, rather than tutor intensively for the grammar school or send them to one of the secondary moderns/comprehensives.

Well, I hope year 5 isn't the be all and end all. My son has had an awful year - both from his perspective and the teacher's - and I am just crossing my fingers and praying that a) he matures over the summer and b) this year's teacher doesn't go to Year 6 with them! Well, that and the 1001 strategies both in and out of school that are being thrown at him.
