Pre-school reading levels in Scotland?

I have a DD(5) who starts school this summer in Scotland. We previously lived in England where her nursery had her learning phonics before the age of 3, presumably getting ready for reception at the age of 4.

Her friends of the same age down south started reception last summer and are reading at various levels now, but the curriculum here is obviously different and she starts school a year later.

I'm not worried that she isn't reading compared to her English friends, but am interested in what reading level (if any) is expected when she starts P1 this summer. Her current nursery follows the CfE but they don't learn any phonics. She knows all her letters and can write them and knows some phonics (from before) but isn't great at sounding out words or blending.

TIA

Hi
My DS is 4.5 and also starting school in August. He knows all of his letters and can blend simple CVS and 4 letter words. This has all been done at home at his lead, there has been no formal teaching of letters/sounds/reading in nursery. CfE does not expect children to be able to read before P1. P1 is very strongly given over to learning sounds and reading here in Scotland. There are children who start P1 unable to even recognise letters. Sounds like your DD will be slightly ahead compared to average.

Thanks for the info, good to know I've not been negligent by not teaching her to read or anything!

She's pretty keen to unlock the 'mystery' of reading on her own, I hope that means she'll enjoy school and in the meantime we'll read lots at home.

My ds could recognise a few letters starting in P1. It's not an issue at all. Now in p2 he is reading books like the twits etc with ease... All the ask is they can get clothes on and off and wipe themselves!
